The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a major honors show approaches, one notices a demand to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
